Joe Pug/Andrew Combs

When: Fri., May 13, 8 p.m. 2016

Folk lovers should find plenty to admire with this singer/songwriter’s deep acoustic cuts. Drawing inspiration from authors such as Walt Whitman and Raymond Carver, Pug pairs his literary lyrics with ambling guitar melodies and blue-collar crooning to create a unique style of Americana storytelling. After breaking out in 2008 with his debut, Nation of Heat, Pug recorded his third album, Windfall, last year. From the first notes of opener “Bright Beginnings,” Pug’s guitar plucking hasn’t sounded crisper than it does on his latest work. (DeSmit)
