Rock & Pop, Seasonal Special Happenings

When: Wed., July 16, 8:30 p.m. 2014

Johnnyswim is an up-and-coming husband and wife duo that’s been getting around — they’ve been on VH1, CMT and NPR’s All Things Considered. While their sound has a definite studio-polished feel that some might find a little too mainstream, Amanda Sudano can really sing. And so she should: Her mom is Donna Summers. Their latest, Diamonds, was released just two months ago, and now they’re touring in support of it. Tracks like “Diamonds” and “Live While We’re Young” tackle issues of growing up while Sudano’s voice soars above guitar strumming and Abner Ramirez backs her up in chorus. Meanwhile, “Home” and “Take the World” give Ramirez a turn at lead vocals, offering up stories of sad love and what-ifs in very country fashion. This odd dichotomy of pop and country work together to really let the personalities of the couple shine through; they both are in the limelight here. (Trenholme)
