From 6 to 9 p.m. today, singer-songwriter Jon Langford (Mekons, Waco Brothers, Bad Luck Jonathan) will play a special acoustic set at Blue Arrow Records as part of the dedication of a memorial garden created in honor of his bandmate, Joe Camarillo, who passed away earlier this year. Admission to the performance is free. Camarillo's family and friends posthumously provided a grant to the Collinwood nonprofit Waterloo Alley Cat Project in his memory. Camarillo loved and helped cats in his own Chicago neighborhood and supported the work of the WACP. The funds, which will be used to feed and care for feral cats in the neighborhood, also helped create a memorial garden to honor Camarillo's generosity. In addition to performing, Langford will also have some of his artwork for sale. All proceeds from the event's drink sales will benefit the WACP. Langford's band, the Waco Brothers, will perform tomorrow at the Music Box Supper Club for the club's seventh anniversary.
