Joyce Manor/The Hotelier/Crying

When: Tue., Oct. 25, 8:30 p.m. 2016

Cody, the fourth album from the SoCal pop-punk band Joyce Manor, takes its title from this unisex name that peaked in popularity around 1990. Cody is a trip back to the turn of the century; a little bit of Relient K and a little bit of Green Day equals something like Weezer for the next wave. It’s not unusual for pop-punk to exude lyrical intelligence and wit opposite the bright, happy-go-lucky guitars and sweet choir-boy harmonies, and Cody is no different. “Like old times fading away from me/angel in the snow/how come nothing amazes me?” sings Barry Johnson on “Angel in the Snow.” Come sing along like Joyce Manor is the band that saved you from suicide.
