Killing in the Name Of

When: Fri., Jan. 3 2014

One of 2013's most original documentaries screens at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque this evening. It’s The Act of Killing, a trippy film which finds filmmakers asking former Indonesian death squad leaders and various military personnel to reenact mass-killings in assorted Hollywood genres. It sounds bizarre — and it is — to the point of silliness, but it’s never irreverent and it becomes a haunting (and eventually quite lucid) history lesson. The Cinematheque’s been out of commission for the holidays for a couple weeks, so be sure to support them in 2014. Tickets for tonight’s screening at 9 are $9. The film screens again tomorrow at 7:05. (Sam Allard)
