Kinsman Dazz Band/BeDazzle/Robert Johnson Jr. Line Dance King

When: Fri., Aug. 23, 8 p.m. 2013

Blending the phrase “danceable jazz” into a tidy portmanteau, the Kinsman Dazz Band has been throwing down upbeat funk for decades. Better yet, the band’s origins lie in Cleveland, so they’ve got that hometown cred. They used to work as the house band at Sonny Jones' Kinsman Grill Lounge, from which the other part of their name sprang. Major hits like “Let It Whip” and “Joystick” showcase the early-'80s new wave elements that buoyed the band in their early days (all of which play just as well in 2013 as in that heyday). Put on your dancing shoes for this one, as that’s the whole point of Dazz Band’s music. If your ass ain’t shakin’, you’re just plain mistaken. No apologies for that little rhyme, by the way, just pure unadulterated groovin’. (Sandy)

Price: $15 aDV, $20 DOS
