After a pair of strong follow-up albums, the 1999 release ADIOS signaled the band's breakup: Personnel conflicts led to the exit of KMFDM mainstays En Esch and Gunter Schulz. Frontman Sascha Konietzko released an album with musician Tim Skold (now working with Marilyn Manson) and vocalist Lucia Cifarelli under the name MDFMK.
Fast forward to 2002, and KMFDM has returned with ATTAK, which succinctly describes the energy of the album's songs. While their contemporaries have made critical errors with questionable stylistic changes on recent albums, Konietzko and company operate more like the German automotive industry: One can expect a consistent product, but subtle refinement and new additions keep things interesting. Expect the creative recharge (as well as the volume) to be amplified in the live setting.
