Like former tourmate Bright Eyes, Brooklyn indie-rocker Kevin Devine hits all of life's big issues in his ultra-personal songs. On his major-label debut, Put Your Ghost to Rest, Devine and his group — the excellently named Goddamn Band — run through a series of tunes about love, politics, and death. Devine is on tour with Oakland's Streets to Nowhere, which makes a pretty racket on its debut, Charmingly Awkward. Frontman Dave Smallen also cribs from indie-rock's best — from Elliott Smith to (again) Bright Eyes.
