Les Délices, Folly of Youth

This program is about flying high and landing hard! Les Délices will delve into the myths of Icarus and Phaeton – young men who dared to fly too close to the sun with terrible consequences. This program pairs George Frederic Handel's own youthful cantata "Tra le fiamme" (1707) with French Baroque cantatas and chamber music by Lully, Duval, and Le Maire. Performers: Shannon Mercer (soprano), Debra Nagy & Kathryn Montoya (baroque oboes, recorders), Julie Andrijeski & Scott Metcalfe (baroque violin), Joshua Lee (viola da gamba), Michael Sponseller (harpsichord), and Simon Martyn-Ellis (theorbo, baroque guitar). Pre-concert lecture at 3PM
