Life in Black and Blue

Painter Ervin Williams offers a tribute to battered women.

@cal body 1 no indent:Local artist Ervin Williams pays tribute to his second-grade teacher in The Colors of Life, a one-night exhibit that benefits the Genesis House, a Lorain County shelter for abused women. The 35-year-old painter recalls that his teacher used to come to school black and blue. “It’s never left my mind,” he says. “She tried to hide it, but the sad thing was, everyone knew it.”

@cal body 1:The Colors of Life’s 30 pieces are painted in “trippy acrylic colors, or anything I can get my hands on,” says Williams. “As John Lennon said, ‘If you’re an artist, give me a fucking tuba, and I’ll make something great.’ I don’t care what I use, even if I gotta use mud.”
