What more is there to be said about the Material Girl? Just as Lady Gaga seems to have stolen her mojo, she returns with a fury, and she’s kept dummy weapons in her stage show despite receiving heavy criticism. She’s also courted controversy at gigs where she’s flashed her breasts and butt (but not at the same time). On her new album, MDNA, she works again with producer William Orbit, the guy who helped craft her terrific 1998 album, Ray of Light. Of course, a slew of other producers contributed to the mix, too, so the results are a bit uneven. But the show will include its share of oldies, as Madonna has regularly played “Papa Don’t Preach,” “Justify My Love,” “Like a Prayer” and “Vogue” on the current tour. At 53, she’s still the “girl gone wild,” as she puts it on MDNA. (Jeff Niesel)
