Margot & the Nuclear So & So's/Los Jon & the Ghosts/Lowly, the Tree Ghost/Extra Medium Pony

When: Fri., Sept. 28, 8 p.m. 2012

Margot and the Nuclear So & So’s isn’t an easy band to define. The fact that there’s no “Margot” in the band only adds to the confusion. The eight-piece band from Indianapolis put out their first album, The Dust of Retreat, in 2006, but now has started to change its sound. Their newest album Rot Gut, Domestic veers from distorted rock (“The Devil,” “Fisher of Men” and “Shannon,” which kind of sounds like a lost Arctic Monkeys B-side) and more soothing sounds (“Christ” and “A Journalist Falls in Love”). What hasn’t changed is front man Richard Edwards’ lyrics that are dark and full of intrigue. And there’s his inexplicable love of clam chowder, which is referenced often in the band bio. (Mendez)
