Meek Mill/Yo Gotti

When: Wed., July 5, 8 p.m. 2017

Tonight, the bombastic duo of Yo Gotti and Meek Mill bring their raw, rugged tales to the Jacobs Pavilion stage. With a Philly-to-Memphis connection proving strong, Meek’s gritty east coast bars and Gotti’s gliding southern braggadocio blend into a strong rap cocktail. Narrative-heavy Meek is touring to support Dreamchasers 4, the fourth in what has blossomed into one of hip-hop’s strongest mixtape series; this one is propelled to by the towering, booming “Litty” with a blue chip verse and hook from Tory Lanez, and the smooth “Two Wrongs,” with Pusha T and newcomer Guordan Banks. Tennessee veteran Gotti found his simmering career vaulted into A-List with his ubiquitous 2015 Top 40 single, “Down in the DM,” and has been handing out hedonistic anthems since. "Castro" has been a recent stand-out, collecting rap’s Who’s Who — Kanye, Quavo, Big Sean, and 2 Chainz — onto a verse-swapping, futuristic ode to all kinds of cuban paraphernalia. (Lawrence Neil)
