Melvin Seals & JGB/Yosemight

When: Fri., Sept. 27, 8 p.m. 2013

Melvin Seals played with the Jerry Garcia Band for years, helping to pioneer the namesake’s jam band legacy. Following the deaths of Garcia and bassist John Kahn in the mid-1990s, Seals formed JGB to continue the sounds. Keepers of the Flame is an incredibly tight, upbeat album; pick it up for the “Don’t Let Go” jam alone. Seals is known far and wide for his keyboard and Hammond B-3 playing, which is nuanced and energetic. Always presiding over his focused washes is his infectious smile and jubilant attitude. Seals has carried on the vibe with aplomb all these years. His musicianship colors the tradition of Garcia’s songwriting beautifully, and you can bet your ass that the band will roll out a fine setlist at tonight's show, the first of a two-night stand. Tomorrow's higher priced ticket reflects the fact that it's a benefit for the Cleveland-based charity the Human Fund that supports arts education programs. (Sandy)

Price: $22.50 ADV, $25 DOS
