The MetroParks Leadership have always appeared to me to be arrogant and elitist. They overspend and overbuild and overdevelop. Acquisition is important but preservation is more important. Education is important but should be done with minimal intrusion so that that which you are teaching about isn't spoiled to teach the lesson. It seams that the Motto is "Build it up and they will come". I love the park system. I have loved them since my child hood raised in Berea and taking walks with my parents in the Rocky River Reservation before the park built the building at the point. We would take walks and see small animals in cages along the trail. In many ways the parks have improved the experience but the long term goal, I feel, still needs to be how to get the public appreciate the outdoors experience for what it is- a natural event. I hate to see the parks go the way of our sports events have gone just to get peoples attention. Sports venues tell you when to yell. clap. boo, play music and have contests to distract us from the real experience all the while selling over priced food and merchandise to keep us occupied.
