This one’s gonna be a real treat. Mike Doughty is hitting the country reviving the best of Soul Coughing. Although, to be clear, it’s a little bit different than how his old band played back in the day. Take “Super Bon Bon”: Doughty throws a bizarre electronic track under everything, giving the song a sort of strangely cultured vibe. He’s left the coffee shop atmosphere of Soul Coughing and stepped into the international terminal of the nearest airport. There’s a lot of references to Satan, which Doughty insists is much needed in today’s musical climate. It doesn’t always work musically, though; “True Dreams of Wichita” is hampered by meddlesome drums, which should have come with some sort of criminal indictment. (Sandy)
