Singer-guitarist Brendan Lukens touts the self-aware angst of early twentysomethings in his light punk/indie rock band Modern Baseball. Songs about beer, buddies and broken hearts make up the raucous break-up album, You’re Gonna Miss It All. The beginning of the album is amped up with songs like the angry skate-punk anthem, “Broken Cash Machine,” a track about trying to forget the person that dumped you. The energy slows with slide guitar and melancholy backing vocals that accompany a broken-hearted Lukens on “Notes,” which ends in a whisper over lonely acoustic guitar. The album’s closing track “Pothole” concludes the scorned breakdown with a ghostly ballad complimented by the saddest strings. Make no mistake, however, these songs are heavier than those by your average punk band. (Gonzalez)
