This story about United Way is disturbing. Our community is poor in so many ways--including the quality of our local leadership. Cleveland Foundation is also being abusive of the community in their back room deal to purchase part of the Dunham Tavern Museum. The sale was so questionable that it is in court. Cleveland Foundation could build all of their new headquarters on the west side of East 66th, instead, they insist on taking Dunham's additional land on the east side of East 66th. Why? To enrich members of the Cleveland Foundation Board and Dunham Tavern Board, that's why.

Now the city of Cleveland officials are compounding the problem by refusing to conduct the required Section 106 review of the project. Section 106 is required when there is development next to an historic property. Dunham is the oldest building on its original site in Cleveland. Used to be a stagecoach stop. Cleveland officials refuse this review. Isn't this corruption?

Sunny Simon and Dale Miller have co-opted the plastic bag issue for their own political gain; they are not serious about reducing the use of plastic bags. They brought it up once, and then it was tabled, never to be seen again. But, this way they can claim they care about the environment when they campaign---they can say "I sponsored legislation to reduce the use of plastic bags". Yes, but that is all they did. Nothing more. (It's called politics, people, use some persuasion!)
My friend told me she asked Dale to try to do something about reducing the use of plastic straws. He said he could try to get plastic straws discontinued in places the county operates. All he has done so far is tap dance about the issue. Talk is cheap.

Digital C is mentioned in this article. I wince when I see this name.
Digital C and Everstream developed out of "One Community".
(Scott Rourke led this; he is now under investigation for his work with Cuyahoga County that involved Everstream)

"One Community" and its founding board members should be investigated. Where did all the money go? and for what? FOR WHAT?

The jury is still out on Ed as a visionary leader, which is what Ohio needs. I used to think he was a visionary and cared about citizens. Lately I fear he doesn't know how to break out of the mindset established by the Dimora and Russo culture. Our community appealed to him 6 weeks ago, with 2,134 signatures to help hold one of the County boards accountable. A board that his office appoints, and that citizens have no direct control over. A board that has floated $75 million in bonds and that will cost Cuyahoga County citizens an additional $100 in debt service. A board that impacts the entire region's economy, land use and public services. All issues Ed says he cares about. He has not bothered to return a phone call or have anyone on his staff do so. If he does not show people that he stands behind his words, he is the sameoldsameoldsameold: a pol who represents and works only for the rich and well-connected.
