Moon Hooch/Honeycomb

When: Wed., Oct. 12, 8:30 p.m. 2016

Two saxophones and a drum kit: The structure of Moon Hooch seems outwardly simple, but there’s a fascinating and fun depth to this band. Their latest album, Red Sky, came out recently, and continues the band’s danceable, funky mission. This is high-energy music, the sort of thing that’ll have you toppling out of your chair if you dare listen at work. And that makes it perfect for a mid-October romp at the Beachland. With the new album out now, it’s really interesting to see the places Moon Hooch is taking its stripped-down sound. You’ve got sort of the classic Hooch sound (“Psychotubes”), and then more far-out songwriting concepts (“Sunken Ship”). Any way you slice it, though, this is fun music. (Eric Sandy)
