Murray Saul 80th Birthday Party

With Great Balls of Fire and Uptight Sugar. 7 p.m. Friday, May 16, $8. Beachland Ballroom, 15711 Waterloo Ave., 216-383-1124.

Cleveland icon Murray Saul returns to the Beachland to celebrate his 80th birthday, which will mark his first public appearance and live Get Down in 30 years. Through the '70s — back when radio was the lifeblood of youth culture — the former WMMS DJ whipped the city into a frenzy every Friday night with Get Downs — epic rants that spread the gospel of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. To fuel the time machine, Great Balls of Fire (pictured) will perform some groovy tunes from days when vinyl was something you listened to, not something you wore.
