  • Big Egg

    5107 Detroit Ave. West Side/Ohio City/Tremont/Detroit Shoreway

    216-281-1600

Classic American-style diner food is the star at Big Egg. While most days, the hours are a reasonable 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., an around-the-clock schedule is observed on Fridays and Saturdays, making it the ideal spot for sobering up after last call at nearby bars and clubs.

  • Katz Club Diner

1975 Lee Rd., Cleveland Heights East Side/University Circle/Little Italy

    216-932-3333

If you sent the Lee Road diner cars through some sort of magical car wash, what would come out the other end is the Katz Club Diner. The chrome is brighter, the glass clearer, and the linens crisper. On the menu are comfort foods like eggs Benedict, corned beef hash, chicken a la King, and meatloaf with mashed potatoes – all cooked the "Doug Katz Way." In the morning, a well-tended coffee bar dispatches cups of locally roasted java and fresh-baked pastries.
  • Rosewood Grill

36 E. Streetsboro Rd., Hudson Southern Suburbs

    330-656-2100

This handsome dining room earns praise for quality, execution, and value, if not ground-breaking originality. Contemporary American in spirit, the approachable menu marries shareable starters, bountiful salads, and crowd-pleasing sandwiches with choice steaks, pastas, and seafood. Full bar and patio with fire pit.
  • Washington Street Diner

8233 Washington St., Bainbridge Twp. Eastern Suburbs

    440-543-0436

A line begins forming out the door around 10:30 a.m. and it doesn’t seem to let up for hours. Breakfast is served all day and features the usual egg and batter suspects plus killer corned beef hash, over-stuffed omelets and a well-stacked breakfast sandwich.
