National Hamburger Festival

When: Sat., Aug. 13 2016

Now in its 11th year, the National Hamburger Festival pays tribute to a staple in many Americans’ diets. The event, which takes place from noon to 11 p.m. today and fro noon to 7 p.m. tomorrow at Akron’s Lock 3, also includes the Buckeye Brewfest, which will take place tomorrow during the National Hamburger Festival. Independently owned and operated eateries ranging from perennial favorite Menches Bros. to the new-school food truck Square Scullery will serve up the grub at this year’s event. Activities include “Bobbing for Burgers,” a contest that involves diving head-first into a kiddy pool filled with ketchup to fish for burger patties, and the Ohio Hamburger Eating Championship, during which eight local eaters will compete to see who can consume the most one-pound burgers in just 10 minutes. Bands will perform over the course of the weekend as well, and Fleetwood Mac Mania, a tribute to Fleetwood Mac, will headline tonight. Tickets are $5. (Niesel)
