Seasonal Special Happenings

Night at the Opera

When: Thu., Jan. 9 2014

In what was to be his last opera, Wagner composed Parsifal as a loose adaptation of a 13th-century epic poem about the Arthurian knight Parzival in his quest for the Holy Grail. Though the opera does raise some eyebrows over Wagner's infamous anti-Semitic beliefs, it's nevertheless a triumph of compositional genius as each of the three acts features continuous music. So if you're feeling brainy, Capitol Theatre shows the Royal Opera House's stunning rendition of this masterpiece tonight. With top opera singers conducted by long-time Royal Opera House music director Antonio Pappano, this screening of a live performance will undoubtedly be stellar. It happens tonight at 7 and Sunday at 11 a.m. Tickets are $20. (Patrick Stoops)
