Playwright explores his dad's legend, finds closure.

In the one-man show Walkin’ Talkin’ Bill Hawkins . . . In Search of My Father, W. Allen Taylor looks for answers about his late dad, the title character. Hawkins was Cleveland’s first black disc jockey. He spun records here for a decade, starting in 1948. Taylor’s play -- which he wrote and stars in -- includes lots of R&B songs from the era. The Cleveland native portrays all the characters onstage, including his father. The work snagged an award last year from the San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle. Dobama Theatre presents the first local staging of the piece, which chronicles Taylor’s quest for the dad he never knew.
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.; Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: June 7. Continues through June 24
