Seasonal Special Happenings

Out of This World

When: Wed., Feb. 25 2015

The Intergalactic Nemesis: Robot Planet Rising, a theatrical experience that mashes up old-timey radio drama (think War of the Worlds) with comic book visuals, is just as crazy as it sounds. High-rez comic-book artwork is projected on a two-story-high screen without word balloons while three actors voice dozens of characters. A foley artist creates hundreds of realistic sound effects and a pianist performs a score of thousands of notes. If you think that’s a lot to wrap your head around, strap in for the story. Robot Planet Rising takes place in 1933 in a place called Robonovia, the Robot Planet. When robot commander El-Bee-Dee-Oh is lost in space, it’s up to Molly Sloan and Timmy Mendez to find him. When Molly’s former fiance Dr. Lawrence Webster turns up with his assistant (and Soviet spy) Natasha Zorokov in tow, Molly and Timmy discover a plot that threatens the very existence of Robonovia and Earth itself! Uh-oh! The retro multimedia experience starts at 7:30 tonight at Connor Palace and tickets are $10 to $25. (Siegel)
