Parasites/The Girls!/Brainwave/Pack Wolf

When: Thu., May 19, 9 p.m. 2016

Assembled in the late ’80s, Parasites helped lay the groundwork for “pop punk,” which Green Day subsequently ushered into the mainstream, putting a boy band spin on the upbeat punk of the Clash and the Undertones by incorporating playful vocal harmonies and eliminating stylistic frills in favor of driving major chord progressions. The band’s concept followed founding member Dave Parasite from New Jersey to California and back with lineup changes as geographically necessary. Over the course of its 30-year history, Parasites released just a handful of full-length albums (most notably Punch Lines and Pair in 1994 and Rat Ass Pie in 1998), instead focusing its energies on putting out singles on a plethora of punk labels. Dave Parasite now splits his time between running his own label, Kid Tested Records, and keeping the band active through shows. Catch their first Cleveland appearance in four years. (Kaufman)
