Plants and Seeds

When: Fri., Aug. 23, 6 p.m. 2013

Two new exhibits premiere tonight at Spaces art gallery in Cleveland’s downtown westside. Mimi Kati found inspiration for her newest piece by observing the abundance of plants from her birthplace of Nara, Japan that were oddly planted around the greater Cleveland area. While the plants are beautiful they actually hurt the delicate ecosystem because of their foreign presence. Kato will follow the invasive plant control team as they remove plants from the North Chagrin Reservation and decorate the holes with reflective paper to look like the eyes of animals. The seeds will also be collected and displayed at Spaces. Brandon Juhasz drew inspiration more from the internet and the manipulation of 2D paper into 3D object. Check out the exhibit in the gallery filled with internet paper prints folded into full scale nude models and other various shapes and objects today through Oct. 18 as well as Kato’ Japanese invasive plants.
