The Cherry Poppin' Daddies finally have a treasure box of new originals to call their own, following up their last album, which came out eight years ago. To pimp the CD, Susquehanna, the two-decade-old octet hauls its horns and strings to Peabody's for a Cleveland concert tonight. "It's a reflection of what we've always done," says bandleader Steve Perry. "We basically do swing, with some ska influence. But this time, there's a ton of Latin flavor."It's about time. The ensemble — best known for its 1997 hit "Zoot Suit Riot" — took an eight-year hiatus after the release of Soul Caddy in 2000. Whether because of family, friends, or solo projects, too much life had been lost on tour. "We were either on the road or in a bar, and a lot of people had stuff undone," says Perry, who managed to spend his downtime earning a degree in molecular biology at the University of Oregon. "For me personally, it took a while to get over the success we had." The show starts at 7 tonight at Peabody's, 2083 East 21st Street. Tickets are $14 to $16.
