Queen for a Day

When: Sun., Sept. 1, 11 a.m. 2013

Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar for her role as Queen Elizabeth II, also won an “Olivier” (sort of the British Tony) for her portrayal of the same character in The Audience a stage play that chronicles the weekly audiences of the Queen and a succession of British Prime Ministers. (Mirren made headlines in May when, in full costume, she went outside the theater during intermission to scold a troupe of drummers whose percussion could be heard during the performance). The Audience was written by Peter Morgan, the same writer who authored The Queen, and directed by Stephen Daldry, the sensitive soul behind Billy Elliot and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. The National Theatre presents an encore presentation at 11 this morning at the Cedar Lee Theatre. The play runs a full three hours and tickets are $20. (Allard)

Price: $20
