Regional Beat: Zach Provenance

Veteran Akron-based singer-songwriter Zach teamed up with a slew of local singer-songwriters to write the tunes on this 17-song disc, which he describes as a "community record." There's not a bad song in the bunch. Zach and Charlie Mosbrook harmonize nicely on the opening tune "More to Learn" and Brent Kirby adds raspy vocals to the gritty "Patron Saint." That's not to say that it's all about the guys. Local women such as Randi Driscoll, Emma Shepard, Kristine Jackson and Diana Chittester make notable contributions. Rachel Roberts also adds some spunk to the "Roots," a moody number that rocks a little harder than most of the other folky tunes. In the liner notes, Zach says it's "the most fun record" he's ever made, and that certainly translates to the tunes here.
