When: Fri., June 24 2011
The City of Cleveland Heights and Cain Park enthusiastically present a revolutionary style of contemporary dance with Rennie Harris Puremovement. Puremovement embraces African-American traditions of the past, while still incorporating the voice of a new generation and its interpretations of dance. Harris believes in communicating the spirit of hip-hop to his audiences, rather than commercially exploited stereotypes. The evening program includes “God Made Me Funky,” “Something To Do With Love Volume 1,” “Continuum,” “P-Funk,” “March of the Antmen” and “Student of the Asphalt Jungle” – all of which Harris choreographed. In his performances, Harris draws on his childhood experiences in Northern Philadelphia to bring “social” dances to the “concert” stage, creating a dance style that all audiences can relate to. The first performance is a Kids Matinee from 1-2 pm ($7 adults, $4 children), followed by an evening performance at 8 pm.
Price: $25/20 advance, $28/23 day of show
