Righteous Reunion

When: Fri., Aug. 23, 7 p.m. 2013

Based on the way metal bands tend to put a lot of emphasis on doom and death, it may be a surprise to find that the men behind the harsh melodies can be a pretty compassionate bunch. This much is evident with tonight’s benefit concert at Peabody’s, which will include a reunion show from former Cleveland metal group Battle Star in addition to sets by bands like Solipsist, the Missing, 2nd Half, All Dinosaurs and Lost in Exile. It's all to support to Joel Ozinga and his wife Carrie — the two face a steep financial hurdle as Joel undergoes cancer treatment and Carrie prepares to have her second child. If it weren’t enough to get to mosh to the tunes of a reunited local favorite, the opportunity to do so for a good cause should be reason enough to lure metal heads of all shapes and sizes. The show starts at 7 p.m.; tickets are $10. (DeSmit)
