Seasonal Special Happenings

Rites and Rituals

When: Thu., April 3 2014

The topic for tonight’s DIRGE lecture at MOCA explores two questions: How do we approach death? And how are materials a part of our grieving process? Tonight’s speaker is Dr. Brandy Schillace, and she will bring together elements of history, anthropology and medical humanities while recalling the works in the museum’s ongoing DIRGE exhibit. Dr. Schillace focuses on medical history and literature, and she will explore how death rituals in the 18th and 19th centuries were carried out and how many of their elements are still present today. The lecture begins at 6 p.m. and is free. (Trenholme)
