Rod & Peel

Vintage roadsters make collectors' hearts race at autorama.

Nothing screams "hot rod" like the General Lee as it bathes in all its Dukes of Hazzard movie glory this weekend at the 2008 Canton Hot Road Show. The famed two-door muscle car will also share the spotlight with an arena full of roadsters, from a '32 Chevy and '37 Ford coupe to an assortment of nostalgic funny cars. To reel in young auto enthusiasts, there will also be low-riding compact sports cars souped up with rad spoilers and stereos. "We have everything from the Model T to the most current type of hot rod that's out there," says Rodd Rainey, the show's promoter. "You get a Chevelle or a Camaro, and you have those every day. A Cadillac from the '30s is hard to find, but we have that."Whether you've dreamed of rebuilding a classic car in your garage or you just go gaga over sleek steel and chrome, the show's got something for you. "The young people like to look at the race cars and cool custom cars," says Rainey. "Some people come in and like to look for cars that they had when they were kids, to relive their memories — like that first date they had back in 1957." The show runs from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Canton Civic Center, 1101 Market Avenue North in Canton. Admission is $10 ($5 for kids age 6 to 12).
