Saturday Night Fever

Tracy Morgan returns to his stand-up roots.

Despite seven seasons on Saturday Night Live and his own sitcom, Tracy Morgan says that stand-up remains his first love. “That’s my foundation,” he says. “That’s what I built my career from.” So don’t expect the Bronx native to haul out any of his old characters — like Astronaut Jones and amateur zoologist Brian Fellow — onstage when he plays the Improv this weekend. Likewise, Morgan says, he has no interest in reviving any of his SNL faves in sure-to-tank movies. “I want to build a fan base,” he says. “I want people to know I do stand-up. That got lost from being on TV for so long.”
