The Cleveland City Stars take on the New Hampshire Phantoms at tonight’s home opener, ending a two-year soccer drought in the area. As one of three new United Soccer Leagues franchises, the team picks up where the Cleveland Force left off in 2005. “We’re getting used to playing with each other together for the first time,” says Mark Geissbauer, the squad’s general manager. The 19-man roster includes two local players: forward Adrian Balc (from Hudson) and defender Mark Schulte (from Brecksville). The Stars are still shining from their 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Kings at last month’s season opener, when midfielder Derek Potteiger scored with a side-volley shot from 35 feet away. “It was the most spectacular kick I’ve ever seen,” says Geissbauer. “We’re on the right track.”
