Shock to the System

When: Thu., Sept. 18 2014

What is it like to have repressed childhood memories suddenly come alive? The psychological thriller Shockwaves screens tonight at the Museum of Contemporary Art and it provides a window into a man’s mind as his seemingly perfect life spins out of control. When he confronts past childhood psychic trauma, everything starts to unravel. Cleveland artist Kasumi directs, and she takes a kaleidoscopic approach to the story, challenging viewers to examine the effects and implications of the cycle of violence and the human condition. While this film doesn’t sound like it’s for the faint of heart, the press kit describes it as “darkly comic.” This film is only showing in one other U.S. location and goes hand in hand with Kasumi’s Perpetual Series exhibition, also opening today at MOCA. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. (Trenholme)
