Short. Sweet. Film Fest Debuts

“Cleveland has a brilliant local film community,” says Case Western Reserve grad Mike Suglio. “We just wanted to create an event to showcase it.” Thus was born the Short. Sweet. Film Fest, set to launch today at Ohio City’s Market Garden Brewery. Featuring nearly two-dozen shorts — all less than 25 minutes — the nonstop movie madness runs from 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Suglio and his co-conspirator Alex Pavloff sent out the call for submissions more than a month ago. “We were truly overwhelmed by the response,” Suglio says. “We got more than 70 shorts from all around the world, and then cut them down to about 25. Rest assured: The ones that will be shown are the best of the best — and many of them are from Cleveland filmmakers.” That includes The Telltale Heart, a reimagining of the Edgar Allan Poe classic by director Jeff Yanik. “The framing, the costuming — just the overall appearance of the film is beyond professional,” raves Pavloff. “It’s a wonderful film and I am so excited to be showcasing it!” Tickets are $12 in advance via eventbrite; a few may be available at the door.
