While many screamo/metal bands have two singers — one for screaming and the other for singing — Swedish rockers Soilwork get the best of both worlds with Bjorn “Speed” Strid. The guy can both sing and scream, and it’s remarkable to watch him switch gears mid-stride. His vocal power is evident in “Rise Above the Sentiment,” the lead single from the band’s just-released ninth album The Living Infinite. A double-disc affair (how old school is that?), the album commences with an intricate string arrangement before the speed metal guitars kick in. Fast and furious new guitarist David Andersson has no trouble keeping up with his new bandmates. (Jeff Niesel)
