When do local bands need a publicist?
When they are too busy making music and touring to be able to do PR themselves. Most of the artists on our roster are on labels or are independent bands that are touring full-time.
What's the difference between a good publicist and bad one?
A good one will make the effort to get you coverage and will be someone that the media has respect for and responds to. It takes a lot of organization and discipline. A bad publicist is just the opposite . . . poorly organized and someone the media does not want to hear from.
What have you been listening to lately?
The Fray, a new band from Denver on Epic Records. It's amazing. Also Breaking Laces, a band from Brooklyn that hasn't been signed, but really deserves to be.
Favorite Cleveland album?
I will go with some old friends of mine that I still listen to, the Simpletons: When You're Young. I also still love the old Michael Stanley stuff.
Who's going to win American Idol?
Taylor Hicks. The dude is soulful and a great singer, and I think America loves him. I write a blog about the show at www.premiumhollywood.com.
