St. Pat's Redux

It doesn’t matter that St. Patrick’s Day was a week ago. It’s gonna be a celebration of the green all over again when the Bronx-based Black 47 plays Wilbert’s tonight. While the band’s brand of Celtic rock isn’t as rousing as the Pogues’ or as revelatory as Van Morrison’s, it’s way more sociopolitical than either (the group’s moniker refers to the worst year of the potato famine that plagued Ireland in the 19th century). But don’t let the history lessons scare you away. Once the pipes, whistles, and guitars kick in, it’s all about keeping the feet moving. Black 47’s latest CD, Bittersweet Sixteen, compiles 15-plus years of fan faves like “Home of the Brave” and “Funky Ceili.” It’s a great introduction to the band.
