Music Around Town

Stephane Wrembel

When: Fri., Jan. 18, 8:30 p.m. 2013

For jazz guitarist Stephane Wrembel, 2012 was a breakout year. He composed the theme music for the most recent Woody Allen movie and traveled the globe in support of Origins, which he issued at the beginning of the year. Born in France, Wrembel is no newcomer to the jazz scene; he’s been touring and recording for the past decade. It’s easy to see why Allen wanted Wrembel to score his film. Origins has a cool gypsy feel to it that recalls the work of the late Django Reinhardt, someone who Wrembel has cited as an influence. The album’s opening track, “The Voice from the Desert,” is a woozy and bluesy number that clearly sounds cinematic. This show marks the start of an anticipated winter tour. (Jeff Niesel)
