Summit Towpath 2012

When: Sat., July 7, 8:30 a.m. 2012

There’s always plenty to see and do along the Towpath Trail — that historic 81-mile walkway that follows the Ohio & Erie Canal from Cleveland to Zoar. Today, there’s even more — as officials from the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, the Cuyahoga Valley National Park and others celebrate the completion of Summit County’s 41-mile contribution to the trail. Aligned along that portion of the canalway — at trail heads from Boston in the north to Barberton in the south — today’s events range from an 8:30 a.m. kids’ fun run to a 6 p.m. concert celebrating the music of Woody Guthrie. In between, you’ll find ranger-led hikes, an art exhibit in an historic garage, old-time musicians, a water-quality workshop, and a chance for the kids to dress up in period clothes. “We hope everyone comes out to have some fun,” says Dan Rice, president of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition. “You can truly spend the day celebrating life in Summit County — past and present.” Check out the website for maps and a schedule.
