This December, Bonfoey Gallery presents two artists with shared inspiration: their urban neighborhoods. Surface features new work by Cleveland artist Laurence Channing and Columbus photographer Christopher Burk. Surface marks Burk’s first show in Cleveland. Laurence Channing’s latest charcoal drawings continue his visual exploration of Cleveland neighborhoods. He received his BFA and MFA from Yale University. Channing’s work has been represented exclusively by Bonfoey since 1998. He received the Cleveland Arts Prize in 2000, a Creative Workforce Fellowship in 2009 and Ohio Arts Council Fellowships three times. Likewise, Burk’s work has been recognized by the Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Award in 2015 and was named Columbus Underground Best Local Artist in 2014. Burk studied at the Columbus College of Art and Design and the University of Akron’s Myers School of Art. Surface opens with the reception from 5 to 8 p.m. today and remains on view in Bonfoey’s street and lower level galleries through Jan. 7. Free. (Usmani)
