Sybris formed in Chicago five years ago as a showcase for Angela Mullenhour's raw, punk-inspired vocals, which are laid on top of a barrage of sounds that borrow from a variety of loud and noisy influences. This is clearly not your average indie-rock garage band. The quartet is open to all kinds of musical experimentation, bringing elements of prog- and psych-rock to its mix. The risk pays off on Sybris' new CD, Into the Trees, which was recorded in the same studio where Nirvana made the blistering In Utero. The first single, "Oh Man!," is a great leap forward. It's only a matter of time before the mainstream catches up.
