Taj Mahal

When: Sat., Aug. 16, 8 p.m. 2014

He’s been shooting up the blues with world music influence for years, crafting a unique niche that satisfies all sorts of atavistic cravings. Harlem-born and reggae-inspired, Taj Mahal rerouted the trajectory of American blues over the course of 50+ years and countless gigs. “Corinna” remains a staple -- cue that one up right now if you’ve never heard it. There are some great “best of” collections out there, and they’re all worth a sit-down if you’re interested in his sound. An Evening of Acoustic Music is a great live album that works ideally in any setting; hit play and relax. The Natch’l Blues is the Taj Mahal album, distilling his essence into nine trips. This is where “She Caught the Katy (And Left Me a Mule to Ride)” originated, and there’s nothing like it. (Eric Sandy)
