Take Action Tour Featuring the Used

When: Mon., Feb. 11, 7 p.m. 2013

The Used guitarist Quinn Allman fondly recalls his childhood memories of watching his dad, whom he says was an “amazing drummer.” “He would just play shows at local bars,” says Allman. “It was cool. I liked the friendship that I saw with my dad and the group of guys that he played with.” Allman would carry that camaraderie into his own bands, most notably screamo sensations The Used, a band which he helped form in Utah in 2001. “There were no bands around us at the time that we had anything to do with. We didn’t have any bands influencing us. It was totally underground.” Given that many of its songs stem from the band’s experiences dealing with addiction and poverty, it’s appropriate The Used is headlining SubCity’s annual Take Action Tour, a benefit for the It Gets Better Project, a nonprofit devoted to helping LGBT teens. “I’ve had many things happen to me personally in my life that can still rock the boat a little bit,” says Allman. “You just grow into knowing key things and getting perspective on things like addictions. That’s stuff you don’t want to ignore.” (Jeff Niesel)
