One of the great punk innovators, Ted Leo visits us at a critical time in American history. Looking around, it seems we could all use some anthemic calls to actions -- something to galvanize a shocked electorate. He and his band, the Pharmacists, have been releasing music for almost 30 years, but it’s the turn-of-the-millennium material that has really maintained its power. The Tyranny of Distance, for instance, and Shake the Sheets are more relevant than ever, with their upbeat riffs and evocative lyrics. While the rest of the world insists that we all salute our newly elected leaders, it’s stuff like this -- Ted Leo’s music -- that reminds us to fight back and create new avenues to love. (Eric Sandy)
