The 2013 Moondog Coronation Ball: The Doobie Brothers/Three Dog Night/The Temptations Revue Featuring Dennis Edwards/The Spencer Davis Group

When: Sat., March 30, 7 p.m. 2013

When Alan Freed hosted the Moondog Coronation Ball — arguably the first rock concert — at the Cleveland Arena back in 1952, he probably had no idea he had spawned a musical form that would change the world. Thanks to Freed, Cleveland will always be known as a rock ’n’ roll city. And thanks to Freed, we’ll probably always be stuck with an annual commemoration concert that pairs together a group of tired classic rock acts. This year’s line-up is no better than previous years and includes the Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night, Dennis Edwards (of Temptations fame) and British psychedelic rockers, The Spencer Davis Group. Most of these bands’ line-ups are drastically different from their original incarnations (there are currently two different incarnations of The Spencer Davis Group) and none of the acts have had anything resembling a hit in years. Still, nostalgia is a funny thing and you can expect plenty of locals will love this blast from the past. (Jeff Niesel)
