Though they’ve kept what seems like a low profile the past few years, the Avett Brothers have a rich enough catalog that their summertime tour dates remain a firmly in the “must-see” column of any music fan’s itinerary planning. The band released Magpie and the Dandelion in 2013, eclipsing 2012’s less-than-stellar The Carpenter and expanding on the emotional, exploratory Americana rock that marked the band’s magnum opus, I and Love and You in 2009. Tunes like “Open Ended Life” and “Another is Waiting” showcase the band’s top-tier ability to blend contrasting tempos (and to really highlight Scott Avett’s banjo work along the way). We highly recommend you get to tonight’s show in time to catch Lake Street Dive’s set too; they have a knack for layering sounds that defies their four-member band structure. (Sandy)
